I’ve been listening to the Tim Ferriss Podcast on the weekends, during my shifts as a security guard at a local hospital.
Tim Ferriss is a bald man by the way, who takes the action hero approach to balding!
Anyway, I was listening to one of Tim’s older podcasts while on my nightly patrols, searching for hoodlums, tweakers, used needles, prostitutes with John’s along the outer edges of the parking lot, etc. That podcast was titled “How to Design a Life,” guest-hosted by Debbie Millman.
The whole podcast is worth checking out.
My favorite line was a brain-dead simple one that I’d somehow never heard before…
Courage comes confidence.
There are many baldness gurus on the internet, some of whom are of the “embrace hair loss” philosophy, and those gurus often contend that confidence is the secret to overcoming hair loss.
Bullshit.
That’d be like telling the 15-year-old with horrendous, disfiguring acne that all his troubles would be resolved if he were confident. “Sure, the captain of the cheer leading team will be happy to date you,” his space cadet mom tells him. “All women care about are your personality,” she continues.
More lies. I was that 15 year old kid, I’d know.
It’s all bullshit, and it’s bad for you, as George Carlin famously once said.
Courage. That’s how you overcome hair loss, along with any other adversities you face in life. Eventually, after you’ve built a foundation for confidence through a number of successes (and an endless string of failures failures), then of course you’ll become confident.
Try. Make an effort. It’s the first step in my article describing the 12 steps to dating success for balding men.
You most certainly can fake it until you make it in both your life and career.
So be courageous.
Put yourself out on life’s proverbial dance floor and bust a move.
